DEST31
Module 31: Sustainable Design (Core)
Outcome
Simulate making informed, responsible consumer decisions related to environmental design.
Indicators
(a) Identify ways a product lifecycle can be extended (e.g., repair, repurpose, redesign, recycle).
(b) Investigate environmental impacts of materials and production methods used in design.
(c) Examine alternate material choices in a design to increase sustainability.
(d) Determine how intermediate materials (e.g., silicone chips, batteries, plastic, glass, alloys) are produced from raw materials (e.g., ores, sands lithium).
(e) Examine the environmental impact of the development of intermediate materials.
(f) Create an extended life product using one or more of the following techniques (e.g., repair, repurpose, redesign, recycle).
(g) Compile a list of products that could have the lifecycle extended in the local community.
