Examine the diversity and impact of Saskatchewan’s energy and mining sectors.
Indicators
(a) Review forms and sources of energy (e.g., chemical, mechanical and potential) in the context of human activity.
(b) Explore the principles of energy release, conversion and utilization.
(c) Explain the fundamental differences between matter and energy.
(d) Identify the renewable and non-renewable energy and mineral resources found in Saskatchewan and the local area.
(e) Describe the main stages of the exploration, mining and drilling processes.
(f) Research the role of government ministries and Indigenous peoples in the energy and mining sectors.
(g) Investigate some of the commercial enterprises that engage in mining, drilling and support activities in Saskatchewan.
(h) Explore the impact of the energy and mining on society (e.g., communication technology, manufacturing, agriculture and consumer products and services).
(i) Investigate the history of the hiring practices in the energy and mining sectors to include diverse groups (e.g., women, Indigenous peoples and immigrants).
