Outcome
Explore the general processes involved in the exploration of natural resources in Saskatchewan.
Indicators
(a) Examine the types of tools (e.g., 3D seismic, core samples, satellite imagery) used to explore for resources.
(b) Explore how the geology of an area and type of resource determines the exploration methods used.
(c) Discuss how the search for one natural resource may result in the discovery of another.
(d) Describe how hole logging is used to map the geology of an area to identify targets, hydrocarbon traps and potash deposits.
(e) Analyze wireline logs with different horizons shown on them.
(f) Investigate how databases are used to openly share information about the exploration of natural resources.
(g) Explain how the development of software to analyze data helps locate new natural resource deposits.
(h) Compare the critical minerals that occur and are mined in Canada with those currently mined and produced in Saskatchewan.
(i) Analyze maps comparing lakes, forests, towns, villages, treaty areas and First Nations communities with staked claims and current mining or drilling projects.
