Outcome
Examine the principles of effective communication skills in energy and mines.
Indicators
(a) Discuss the importance of effective communication skills (e.g., speaking, writing, listening and reading) for those employed in energy and mining industries.
(b) Identify the characteristics (e.g., specific language choice, simple instructions and concise answers) of effective verbal and written communication.
(c) Describe the types of communication (e.g., reading and interpreting products and manuals, discussing equipment needs with suppliers and managing employees) required in energy and mining sectors.
(d) Explain why communication is a critical component of safety procedures.
(e) Describe the role of developing meaningful relationships in effective business communication and partnerships.
(f) Identify communication tools (e.g., video conferencing, broadcast media and social media), the skills required to effectively use them and when they might be used.
(g) Discuss the importance of communication between industry, suppliers (e.g., equipment manufacturers), consumers and the public about energy and mining practices.
(h) Identify learning resources (e.g., Sask Mining, Student Energy and Petroleum Technology Research Center) specific to energy and mining topics.
