Outcome
Investigate the characteristics and formation of oil, gas and coal deposits in Saskatchewan.
Indicators
(a) Compare the different types of oil (e.g., heavy and light crude) and gas (e.g., sweet and sour natural gas).
(b) Explore the physical and chemical characteristics of different samples of crude oil.
(c) Compare the different types of coal (e.g., lignite, bituminous and anthracite).
(d) Summarize the physical and chemical characteristics of different samples of coal.
(e) Describe the natural processes that produced oil, gas and coal in Saskatchewan during the Carboniferous period.
(f) Compare oil, gas and coal deposits in Saskatchewan with other provinces and countries.
(g) Explain how the type of deposit formation (e.g., porous rock and oil sands, and shallow versus deep coal seams) will determine the type of extraction used.
