Outcome
Examine how oil and gas are stored and transported.
Indicators
(a) Describe how oil and gas from a well site are stored.
(b) Explore the impact the improper storage of oil and gas can have on the environment and communities in the area.
(c) Explore how oil and gas are transported from well sites to production facilities and shipping ports.
(d) Research the advantages and disadvantages (e.g., environmental, cost and lifespan) of long-haul transportation methods for oil and natural gas.
(e) Identify the two Canadian crude oil and natural gas pipeline systems, their sources, tributaries and destinations.
(f) Explain the mechanics of the movement of oil and gas through pipelines.
(g) Investigate the environmental impact of pipeline issues and consultations required when they occur.
(h) Research which organizations or regulatory bodies are responsible for the monitoring and response to problems (e.g., lost shipments and accidents) occurring during distribution of petroleum.
(i) Explore the impact an Indigenous territory can have on a distribution project.
