Outcome
Investigate partnerships that exist in the forestry industry.
Indicators
(a) Research how treaty land entitlements, land claims and the spiritual importance of land impacts the forestry industry in Saskatchewan.
(b) Interpret the message provided by Elders or Knowledge Keepers teaching about their relationship with forests.
(c) Research how traditional land use differs within Métis and First Nations communities across Saskatchewan.
(d) Summarize forestry industry and First Nations partnerships in Saskatchewan (e.g., Mistik and NorSask).
(e) Explore contemporary cultural and economic partnerships within forestry (e.g., sawmills, outfitting, ecotourism, development) undertaken by First Nations and Métis peoples.
(f) Examine how the Indigenous principle of working together and helping each other is being applied to forest management practices and partnerships
(g) Discuss how long-lasting community-based partnerships that are mutually beneficial enhance all areas of forestry (e.g., risk-management, sustainability and ecosystem-based management).
(h) Reflect on the importance and benefits of building relationships and partnerships with neighboring communities at all stages of projects related to land use within forestry.
(i) Explore the partnerships that exist in the forestry industry between organizations like the Canadian Institute of Forestry, Saskatchewan Forestry Association, the Prince Albert Model Forest, and the Association of Saskatchewan Forestry Professionals.
(j) Assess community views on the benefits and disadvantages (e.g., social, economic and environmental) of the forestry industry on families and local communities.
(k) Compare Saskatchewan First Nation and Métis Consultation Policy Framework legislation for duty to consult with Indigenous communities, proponents (e.g., forestry companies), engagement guidelines and other mutually beneficial and trusting partnerships (e.g., environmental, non- government organizations).
(l) Explore the relationship between The Natural Resources Transfer Acts and The Saskatchewan First Act and their impact on Indigenous peoples and resource industry stakeholders.
