Indicators
(a) Identify the components of harvesting a forest including natural forest patterns, clear cutting, shelter wood, logging, regeneration and environmental protection.
(b) Describe the stages in the harvesting process (i.e., falling, delimbing, skidding, loading and hauling).
(c) Explore applications of different methods of forest harvest (e.g., clear cutting, selective cutting and shelter wood cutting) and regeneration (e.g., natural, artificial and intensive).
(d) Compare harvesting methods and the different worldviews that are reflected within them.
(e) Research the evolution of harvesting methods including techniques and equipment.
(f) Recognize factors that influence harvesting methods such as timber characteristics and condition, growth, and utilization.
(g) Explore the impact of wildfires on the planned area for harvesting trees.
(h) Examine environmental concerns when planning and conducting harvest.
(i) Examine harvesting plans for pertinent information such as timber species, quality, allowed cut, volume, age, layout, cutting area, roads and landing sites.
