(c) | Demonstrate respect for the natural environment by conserving fuel and by practicing an act of mindfulness when harvesting material to burn. |

Discuss how controlled and maintained fires can be used for a variety of purposes, including:

(e) | Research local fire regulations (e.g., no open fires and fire bans). |
(f) | Discuss the risk of using accelerants when lighting fires. |

Prepare the fire site with consideration for fire safety, including:

(h) | Discuss commonly used types of household tinder (e.g., cotton ball and newspaper). |
(i) | Explain the importance of gradually increasing the size of kindling. |
(j) | Practise safely lighting and maintaining fires in favourable conditions with common ignition sources, tinder and kindling. |
