Outcome
Explore human effects on wildlife species and spaces.
Indicators
(a) Discuss the cultural and traditional use of natural resources with an Elder or Knowledge Keeper.
(b) Discuss the effects of human populations on wildlife (e.g., distribution, diversity and abundance of species) and habitat in the local area.
(c) Compare the diversity of wildlife and plant species in areas of high and low human population.
(d) Discuss the contributions and goals of different stakeholder groups (e.g., hunters, conservation organizations, government, recreational users, farmers and Indigenous people) in managing interactions between wildlife and society.
(e) Explore management strategies (e.g., migration corridors, bounties, euthanasia and relocation) that enable wildlife and humans to coexist.
(f) Investigate the role of protected spaces (e.g., parks, wildlife and wilderness areas, migratory bird sanctuaries, ecological reserves, world heritage sites, private land and grazing reserves) in managing ecosystems.
(g) Explain the role of public (e.g., government) and private (e.g., industry) organizations in managing and protecting wildlife and ecosystems.

Explore the role that sustainable gardening and farming practices have on protecting wildlife and habitat, such as:

  • organic practices;
  • vermicompost;
  • peat-free gardening;
  • zero tillage; and,
  • permaculture food forest.
