Outcome
Investigate characteristics of specific careers in the field of wildlife and habitat management.
Indicators
(a) Examine how wildlife contributes to the economy of an area.
(b) Investigate aquaculture facilities in Saskatchewan.
(c) Explore the benefits (e.g., restoration of threatened species and diversity to food supply) and drawbacks (e.g., spread of disease, use of antibiotics and habitat loss) of aquaculture.
(d) Discuss game farming (e.g., wild boar, elk, whitetail, ostrich and bison) as an alternative to domestic livestock.
(e) Explain the objectives (e.g., protect habitat from monocrop agriculture, increase numbers of huntable species and provide optimum habitat for wildlife) and the ethical considerations (e.g., 'unfair' advantage over wildlife, unnatural genetics and disease susceptibility) of game farming.
(f) Investigate ecotourism and related job opportunities (e.g., interpreter, and hunting and fishing guide) in Saskatchewan.
(g) Research and explain the competencies (e.g., knowledge of game patterns, safety precautions and local regulations) required to be a hunting or fishing guide.
(h) Investigate the roles (e.g., enforce regulated use of natural resources and manage interactions between wildlife and humans) of a conservation officer.
(i) Explore the training requirements to become a taxidermist or a producer of fish reproduction mounts.
(j) Research environmental technicians' contributions (e.g., identify wildlife, population planning and land planning) to the consulting industry.
(k) Describe the responsibilities (e.g., chemical testing, pollution tracking and population counting) that are characteristic of careers in the field of environmental monitoring.
(l) Explain the contributions of careers in environmental non-government organizations to the search and monitoring of wildlife data.
(m) Investigate the roles and training requirements of a wildlife rescuer or wildlife rehabilitator.
