Module 85: Small Business Opportunities (Optional)
Outcome
Investigate small business opportunities, including home-based businesses, in the wildlife and habitat industry in Saskatchewan.
Indicators
(a) Research the contributions that small businesses make to the local and Saskatchewan economy.
(b) Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of operating a small business, including a home-based business.
(c) Investigate the advantages and disadvantages of owning a sole proprietorship, partnership and/or franchise business.
(d) Explore the role of cooperatives as a business model and their impact on the provincial economy.
(e) Discuss the importance of legislation and/or regulations that govern the wildlife industry in Saskatchewan.
(f) Classify examples of wildlife and habitat management businesses within one's community as home-based, sole proprietorship, partnership and/or franchise businesses.
(g) Inquire about the common characteristics and qualifications of a successful small business owner in the wildlife industry.
(h) Research the requirements (e.g., registering for collecting and remitting taxes, licensing, zoning, obtaining permits and registering the business name) for establishing a small business in one's community.
(i) Explain the importance of sustainable business practices such as providing good quality customer service, following environmental guidelines and employing qualified and certified personnel.
(j) Outline and present a plan for a small business in the wildlife industry (e.g., guide, game farm, aquafarm, meat processing and taxidermy) in one's community.
(k) Provide feedback on own and/or peer business plans.
