Outcome
Apply safe work practices in the machine shop.
Indicators
(a) Identify potential safety hazards (e.g., electricity, chemicals, rotating machines, ventilation and noise) in the machining work environment.
(b) Demonstrate consistent and effective use of personal protective equipment (PPE) to ensure personal safety and the safety of others in the workspace.
(c) Discuss processes involved in good housekeeping procedures and routines in the machine shop.
(d) Locate fire extinguishers, the eye-wash station and the first-aid station in the work environment.
(e) Identify preventative measures to avoid specific accidents common to machining equipment and environments.
(f) Recognize potential hazards presented by tools and equipment in the machine shop.
(g) Demonstrate safe usage of all tools and equipment.
(h) Create an emergency evacuation plan to safely leave the machine shop.
(i) Discuss the process involved in reporting near-misses or accidents.
