Outcome

Investigate the purpose of heat treatment of metals.

Indicators

(a)	Discuss the reasons for heat-treating metals.
(b)	List the properties and characteristics of metals that can be heat-treated.
(c)	Describe methods and expected results of heat-treating metals including: stress-relieving; annealing; normalizing; hardening; surface-hardening; case-hardening; and, tempering.
(d)	Demonstrate heat treatment on a sample or project material.
(e)	Demonstrate safe practices when heat-treating metals.
