Investigate the safe and effective operation of drilling machines.
Indicators
(a) Identify the styles and types of drilling machines.
(b) Review safety rules, including the effective use of personal protective equipment (PPE), that must be followed while using drilling machines.
(c) Identify the parts of a drill press.
(d) Practice using appropriate devices (e.g., jigs and fixtures) to hold material.
(e) Explore the various operations (e.g., drilling, countersinking, counterboring, reaming and spot-facing) that can be performed using a drill press.
(f) Calculate and adjust spindle speed revolutions per minute (rpm) and feed rate.
(g) Demonstrate safe practices when working with drilling machines.
(h) Conduct maintenance of equipment, including inspecting and sharpening drill bits.
(i) Explore industrial applications of drilling machines.
