Module 2: Sask911 (Core)
Outcome
Assess the role of the Sask911 system in supporting public safety in the province.
Indicators
(a) Describe the purpose of, and services provided by, the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency Sask911 system.
(b) Investigate the availability and processes for qualifying for and accessing the text message service for Sask911 as a Saskatchewan resident.
(c) Discuss what to do if 911 is dialed accidentally.
(d) Investigate the consequences of placing a prank call to 911.
(e) Create a list of tips for being able to provide the information required by Sask911 (e.g., keep calm, know your location or surroundings, stay on the line).
(f) Describe the response and support a caller to Sask911 may encounter, including the sequence of events that typically unfold.

Examine the components of, and roles associated with, the Sask911 system including:

  • public service answering points (i.e., located near Prince Albert, Saskatoon and Regina);
  • dispatch life support;
  • ambulance services;
  • medical first responder teams; and,
  • emergency services.
(h) Determine actions to take if 911 is not available (e.g., no phone access, out of cell service, isolated area) during an emergency.
(i) Research the availability of services similar to Sask911 and associated telephone numbers in other parts of North America and the world.
