Outcome

Assess potential workplace hazards and injury prevention strategies related to emergency services.

Indicators

(a)	Differentiate between the four Occupational Health and Safety hazard categories: physical (e.g., heavy lifting, repetitive motion, slipping/tripping, working at heights, working alone, cuts, burns); chemical (e.g., chemicals, fumes, vapours, gases); biological (e.g., viruses, fungi, bacteria and mold; bodily fluids; sewage; animal and pet waste); and, psychological (e.g., harassment and bullying, stress, fatigue, shift work).
(b)	Categorize examples of potential hazards that emergency services personnel may encounter.
(c)	Describe employers’ and employees’ rights and responsibilities pertaining to workplace hazards and how they can work together to prevent workplace hazards.
(d)	Analyze statistics related to workplace injuries for emergency services personnel in Saskatchewan and Canada.
(e)	Describe the purpose of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
(f)	Discuss the need for, and importance of, proper-fitting PPE and clothing.
(g)	Research employer responsibilities pertaining to PPE (e.g., training employees on the usage, limitations, care, maintenance, proper disposal) in Saskatchewan.
