Outcome
Assess approaches used by emergency services personnel in supporting diverse populations in the community.
Indicators
(a) Analyze the diversity in the local community, Saskatchewan and Canada, including cultural and linguistic needs.
(b) Reflect on the importance of building positive relationships within the local community as emergency services personnel.
(c) Discuss ways in which to build positive relationships in the community as emergency service personnel.
(d) Research the potential impact of discrimination based on factors such as ancestry, nationality, creed, gender, sexual orientation and age on the provision of emergency services.
(e) Explore strategies (e.g., technology, subscribing to interpretation and translation services) used by emergency services personnel to effectively assist and communicate with individuals from diverse backgrounds and needs.
(f) Examine the challenges and opportunities (e.g., cost, availability of translators, time to provide service) that occur when communicating with community members who speak English as an additional language.
(g) Discuss the importance of utilizing inclusionary practices when serving the public.
