Analyze the use of social media as a communication tool during an emergency.
Indicators
(a) Identify examples of emergency communications using common social media platforms.
(b) Discuss the advantages (e.g., instantaneous messaging; supporting various media such as text, video and audio; audience reach) and disadvantages (e.g., short, concise messages may be misunderstood; loss of control of a message after it is sent; limited audience reach) associated with using social media to communicate with the public during an emergency.
(c) Investigate the implications (e.g., to self, others and community) of misuse of social media by bystanders in an emergency situation.
(d) Research ways that social media could be used effectively to manage communications during an emergency.
