(a)	Define the terms first aid and first aider.
(b)	Discuss the three P’s or aims of first aid to: preserve life; prevent the injury or illness from getting worse; and, promote recovery.
(c)	Examine the ABCD basics of basic first aid including: Airway – Does the patient have an open airway? Breathing – Is the patient breathing? Is it effective breathing? Circulation – Does the patient have a pulse? Deadly bleeding – Is the patient bleeding, and if so, how badly?
(d)	Identify potential actions (e.g., calling 911) and equipment used to assist in providing the ABCD basics of basic first aid.
(e)	Describe the characteristics of time-critical medical emergencies such as cardiac arrest; stroke; breathing emergencies; severe allergic reactions; and, severe trauma.
(f)	Identify the characteristics of non-time-critical emergencies (e.g., minor cuts or bruises, rash, sprain).
(g)	Participate in mock emergency situations to practise appropriate initial responses to scenarios where first aid is required.
