Outcome
Analyze the safe operation of emergency vehicles in Saskatchewan.
Indicators
(a) Examine the design features of emergency vehicles in Saskatchewan.
(b) Research Saskatchewan and Canadian statistics related to incidents, injuries and fatalities resulting from vehicle collisions/mishaps associated with emergency vehicles (e.g., emergency services personnel responding to, returning from, or working at an emergency).
(c) Examine provincial and federal laws that protect all emergency services personnel on Saskatchewan roads.
(d) Describe a driver’s legal responsibility and response to an emergency vehicle sounding a siren, displaying flashing lights and approaching or stopped on the road in Saskatchewan.
(e) Identify usage and meaning of various colours for emergency vehicle lights.
(f) Examine conditions that might lead to wake-effect collisions related to emergency vehicles.
(g) Research driver qualifications, training requirements and licensing requirements for operating a variety of emergency vehicles including ambulance, fire truck and car in Saskatchewan.
(h) Research guidelines for the safe operation of an emergency vehicle.
