Outcome
Assess the use of
personal protective
equipment and
clothing in
firefighting.
Indicators
(a) | Identify hazards (e.g., excessive heat, smoke, dust, fumes) commonly faced by firefighters. |
(b) | Investigate types of firefighting PPE and clothing (e.g., gloves, boots, undergarments, helmets, face shields, hearing protection, respiratory protection). |
(c) | Describe when, where and how specific pieces of firefighting PPE and clothing are deployed. |
(d) | Investigate the evolution and use of PPE technology in firefighting. |
(e) | Examine characteristics and features of firefighting PPE and clothing that make them effective. |
(f) | Assess challenges (e.g., restricted visibility, weight, heat tolerance, weather) associated with use of a variety of firefighting PPE and clothing. |
(g) | Explain the procedures to donning and doffing of firefighting PPE in a variety of circumstances including darkness. |
(h) | Determine the selection of PPE appropriate for a variety of firefighting scenarios. |
(i) | Research the impacts (e.g, medical, psychological) of incorrect use of PPE in firefighting. |
