Outcome
Assess the importance of pre-incident planning for individuals, families, businesses and the local community.
Indicators
(a) Explore the importance of pre-incident planning for individuals, families, businesses, and the local community.
(b) Describe pre-incident planning as it relates to firefighting.
(c) Discuss the importance of pre-incident planning for individuals, businesses and the community.
(d)

Research the types of information within a pre-fire planning document or report, including:

  • building characteristics including a floor plan and building materials;
  • occupancy;
  • protective features such as a sprinkler system;
  • hazards;
  • location; and,
  • water sources.
(e) Locate the muster points at the school.
(f) Identify muster points within the home and community.
(g) Develop a pre-incident plan for a building/structure (e.g., home, school) within the community.
(h) Investigate processes for recording, storing and sharing pre-incident plans within the community.
(i) Examine the role of a fire safety officer as it relates to pre-incident planning.
(j) Determine the identity and the role of the local fire safety officer.
