Outcome
Examine fire ground safety practices and procedures.
Indicators
(a) Define fire ground safety.
(b)

Reflect on ways to work safely as a firefighter, such as:

  • wearing a safety vest for greater visibility;
  • choosing clothing appropriate for weather conditions; and,
  • selecting the proper PPE.
(c) Discuss the importance of the buddy system for firefighting.
(d) Examine the meaning of a mayday call in a firefighting situation.
(e) Investigate firefighter responses to a mayday call.
(f) Describe proper techniques for carrying or dragging an injured person to safety.
(g) Assess the importance of fireground awareness, including the initial observation of a firefighting scene, for the safety of self and others.
(h) Investigate the role and function of an incident safety officer at a fire incident scene.
