Indicators
(a) | Differentiate between wildland fuels (e.g., vegetation such as grass and trees) and built fuels (e.g., human development such as buildings). |
(b) | Identify wildland fuels common to the local area and other regions in Saskatchewan. |
(c) | Research statistics related to the occurrence of wildland fires in Saskatchewan and Canada. |
(d) | Examine factors that contribute to wildland fire development, such as wind, topography and drought. |
(e) | Assess firefighting challenges commonly presented by wildland fires and the possible tactics for fighting them. |
(f) | Identify factors rural and remote firefighters face in providing service in emergencies, such as distance to call, weather conditions, availability of water and availability of personnel. |
(g) | Examine staffing structures and compensation of rural and remote fire departments. |
(h) | Explore ways in which firefighters interact and communicate with local police and EMS services during scene calls. |
(i) | Examine the role of the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency (SPSA) in wildland firefighting. |
