Module 34: Drill and Deportment in Policing (Optional)
Outcome
Assess the purpose and importance of drill and deportment in policing.
Indicators
(a) Analyze the similarities and differences in drill and deportment between different police forces (e.g., federal, provincial, municipal and First Nations).
(b) Research the use of drill and deportment as a training tool in police training programs (e.g., enforcing attention to detail, self-discipline).
(c) Research the evolution of personal grooming standards in policing, such as allowing long hair, beards and tattoos.
(d) Investigate the process of learning about drill structure as an RCMP recruit at Depot.
(e) Research the traditions and uses of events, such as the Seargent Major’s Parade, Sunset Ceremony and Musical Ride in the RCMP.
(f) Investigate the history of the use of drill in the RCMP, including dismounted cavalry drill.
(g) Investigate ways foot drill is utilized in community events (e.g., Remembrance Day, parades) when different organizations (e.g., municipal police, RCMP, Canadian Forces) march together.
(h) Practise or describe basic foot drill movements.
