Module 35: Personal Protective Equipment and Clothing in Policing (Core)
Outcome
Assess the use of
personal protective
equipment and
clothing in policing.
Indicators
(a) | Identify hazards (e.g., bodily fluids, broken glass, harmful chemicals, animals) commonly faced by police officers. |
(b) | Investigate common pieces of personal protective equipment (PPE) (e.g., Kevlar vest, duty belt with full operational gear, uniform, search gloves, CSA certified footwear, first aid kit, Naloxone) police officers are required to wear. |
(c) | Research the evolution of PPE technology utilized in past and present policing. |
(d) | Describe situations in which specific pieces of police PPE (e.g., body armor, gas mask, search gloves) are used based on situational tasks. |
(e) | Examine the characteristics and features of police PPE and clothing that provide protection to officers. |
(f) | Assess problems (i.e., restricted visibility, weight, maneuverability, comfort, weather conditions) associated with a variety of police PPE and clothing. |
(g) | Research the different types of uniforms available to police officers, such as general duty, plain clothes and ceremonial dress. |
(h) | Examine situations in which police officers select work uniforms based on assigned work situations such as general duty or special task. |
