Module 37: Rural and Remote Policing (Optional)
Outcome
Examine rural and remote policing realities in Saskatchewan.
Indicators
(a) Identify the geographic areas which are considered to be rural and remote policing jurisdictions in Saskatchewan.
(b) Investigate scenarios (e.g, one person responding to a call for service, shift work, working nights) common to rural and remote policing.
(c) Examine the skill set required for first on the scene emergency response (e.g., administering first aid, securing the scene, directing traffic, communicating with operations center) for police officers.
(d) Explore ways in which RCMP/police interact and communicate with local fire and EMS services during scene calls.
(e) Identify ways which demographics and local culture influence policing response.
(f) Explore unique situations (e.g., responding to a call individually, no immediate back up, geographical distance) which police officers may encounter while responding to calls for service.
(g) Examine the importance of police officers understanding threat cues and perceived dangers to inform decision making to protect the safety of themselves and the community.
