Module 43: Lost Person Behaviour (Optional)
Outcome
Examine the relationship between an understanding of lost person behaviour and successful search and rescue efforts.
Indicators
(a) Describe scenarios when an individual may be considered lost (e.g., a small child wanders away from a farmyard; a hunter does not return home at the anticipated time; a lone skier on a remote hill breaks a leg in a fall and cannot move).
(b) Research facts about lost person behaviour pertaining to factors such as age (e.g., toddler, child, teenager, adult), mental conditions (e.g., suffering from dementia or mental illness) and reason for being outdoors (e.g., hiker, hunter, nature photographer).
(c) Examine strategies and ways that individuals who are lost can make it easier for searchers to find them.
