Explore the potential impact of networking on one’s career journey.
Indicators
(a) Define networking.
(b) Differentiate among personal, social and career networks.
(c)

Describe one’s personal, social and career networks by answering questions such as:

  • Whom do I know?
  • What do I do outside of school?
  • What opportunities exist or could exist because of these networks?
(d) Recognize how networking can impact one’s career opportunities and support one’s career journey.
(e) Discuss how online and social media activity as well as one’s digital identity can positively and negatively impact such things as employment status, employability and career opportunities.
(f) Identify potential allies (e.g., people, groups, businesses, post-secondary institutions and training institutions) that could be a part of one’s network to support at least one career development interest.
(g) Describe ways (e.g., volunteering, job shadows and informational interviews) to build and expand networks.
(h) List the advantages and disadvantages of networking with a variety of allies.
(i) Discuss the mutual benefits of contributing to and receiving support from a network.
