Module 14B: Employment Standards B (Core)
Outcome
Analyze employment standards for Saskatchewan workers.
Indicators
(a) Discuss ways that various agencies (e.g., Employment and Social Development Canada, the Saskatchewan Human Rights Commission, Saskatchewan Labour Relations Board, the Saskatchewan Ministry of Labour Relations and Workplace Safety, Saskatchewan Federation of Labour and unions) support fair workplace practices in Saskatchewan and Canada.
(b)

Analyze employers’ and workers’ rights as outlined in Part II of The Saskatchewan Employment Act, 2019 with respect to fair workplace practices that include topics such as:

  • overtime;
  • coffee and meal breaks;
  • work schedules;
  • reporting for duty pay;
  • vacations, including annual holiday (vacation) pay;
  • shift work and short shifting;
  • unpaid job protection due to illness or injury;
  • job protected leaves;
  • layoff and termination;
  • minimum age of employment;
  • uniforms and special articles of clothing;
  • public (statutory) holidays;
  • premium pay for working on a public holiday; and,
  • non-discrimination in pay.
(c) Research the processes for filing formal complaints related to employment standards and discrimination in the workplace.
(d) Identify employment standards that pertain to an occupation of interest or to one’s present place of employment.
