Outcome
Compare the impact of federal and provincial legislation on workers in Saskatchewan.
Indicators
(a)

List examples of industries (e.g., inter-provincial and international services such as railways, pipelines, shipping and shipping services; radio and television broadcasting; air transport; banks; most grain elevators, flour and seed mills; uranium mining and processing; and most federal crown corporations and the federal public service) that are federally regulated by the Canada Labour Code.

(b)

List examples of industries that are provincially regulated by The Saskatchewan Employment Act, 2019.

(c)

Compare employment standards outlined in the Part II Employment Standards of The Saskatchewan Employment Act, 2019 and in the Canada Labour Code pertaining to factors such as:

  • hours of work;
  • leave provisions;
  • annual vacations;
  • public holiday provisions;
  • notice provisions;
  • minimum wage;
  • payment of wages;
  • collection of wages;
  • assignment of wages;
  • equal pay;
  • discriminatory actions; and,
  • fines.
(d) Role-play scenarios that demonstrate ways of managing anger and negotiating and resolving conflict in the workplace.
(e) Develop an employment contract that outlines working conditions for a specific workplace.
(f) Discuss ways to address workplace disputes such as a worker not being paid overtime.
(g) List community agencies that can provide information about employment standards.
