Outcome

Explore the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS).

Indicators

(a)	Discuss what the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) is and its purpose and scope in the workplace.
(b)	Differentiate between general education and workplace training in regards to WHMIS 2015.
(c)	Discuss factors that determine the required level of workplace specific training in WHMIS 2015.
(d)	Describe the hierarchy of controls that is standard practice in the workplace for minimizing and eliminating exposure to hazards, including: Elimination (i.e., physically removing the hazard); Substitution (i.e., replacing the hazard); Engineering controls (i.e., isolating people from the hazard); Administrative controls (i.e., changing the way work is performed); and, Personal Protective Equipment (i.e., protecting the worker with Personal Protective Equipment).
(e)	Define the four parts of WHMIS 2015 (i.e., hazard identification and product classification; labels with warning symbols; Safety Data Sheets (SDS); and worker education and worksite specific training) that help workers handle hazardous materials safely.
(f)	Identify the roles and responsibilities of the employer, worker, and supplier in relation to the safe handling of hazardous materials.
(g)	Describe the two main types of WHMIS 2015 labels (i.e., supplier and workplace).
(h)	Differentiate between the supplier label and workplace label.
(i)	Identify hazard classes and categories.
(j)	Describe the purpose and contents of current hazard pictograms.
(k)	Identify the 16 sections of a Safety Data Sheet (SDS).
(l)	Describe the usefulness of Safety Data Sheets (SDS) in helping to control hazardous materials.
(m)	Role-play a variety of scenarios that require one to evaluate hazardous materials and respond appropriately.
