Indicators for this outcome
(a) Update personal career artifacts (e.g., resume and cover letter) as required for the work placement, and provide to the work placement employer.
(b)

Develop a procedural guide for the work placement that includes items such as:

  • transportation to and from the work placement;
  • hours of work;
  • guidelines for absence and tardiness;
  • dress code;
  • job description; and,
  • conflict resolution.
(c) Compile an employer information package that includes documents (e.g., permission forms, logs and self- and employer- evaluation forms) needed for the work placement.
(d) Describe how factors such as one’s educational and other experiences including paid, unpaid and volunteer work; self-concept; personality; needs; values; interests; knowledge; skills; attitudes; and career goals and plan might impact one’s contribution in the workplace.

Brainstorm a list of questions to ask the employer before beginning the work placement; these may include:

  • What is my schedule of work hours?
  • Who is my supervisor?
  • What should I wear?
  • What personal grooming standards are expected?
  • When will I be provided with safety training?
(f) Develop a list of questions that might be asked by the employer in the preplacement interview and prepare answers for them.
(g) Participate in an interview with the employer prior to beginning the work placement.
(h) Reflect on one’s performance during the interview.
