Outcome
Examine the role and impact of tourism in Canada.
Indicators
(a) Research the evolution of tourism in Canada.
(b) Identify trends in tourism within Canada.
(c) Analyze regional differences in tourism in Canada.
(d) Investigate the attitudes and habits of Saskatchewanians and Canadians pertaining to tourism in Canada.
(e) Conduct an inquiry into the reasons why Canada may or may not be considered a destination of choice for people in other countries around the world.

Interpret statistics and facts related to tourism in Canada, such as:

  • the number of people employed;
  • demographics of those who are employed;
  • the number of visits to and within Canada;
  • popular destinations in Canada; and,
  • annual travel expenditures.
(g) Discuss factors (e.g., pandemic, economic downturn, lack of skilled workers and economic boom) that may contribute to periods of growth and decline in the tourism sector in Canada.
(h) Research strategies that tourism industries can utilize to remain resilient and thrive during times of adversity and/or an economic downturn.
(i) Describe the work of organizations such as Destination Canada that market Canada as a tourism destination internationally.
(j) Examine once-in-a-lifetime travel experiences that are found only in Canada through programs such as Destination Canada Signature Experiences.
