Explore the accommodation industry and its interrelatedness to other industries within the tourism sector.
Indicators
(a) Describe common types of accommodation (e.g., hotel, motel, cabin, bed and breakfast, guest ranch, hostel and camp/campground).
(b) Classify examples of accommodation within the community and surrounding area and/or province according to the accommodation types.
(c) Explain the interrelatedness among the accommodation and other tourism industries.
(d) Examine factors (e.g., ratings, purpose of travel, previous experiences— both positive and negative, price, location, accessibility and amenities) that influence an individual’s choice for accommodation.
(e) Identify trends (e.g., sharing economy and self-service options) that may impact the accommodation industry.
(f) Discuss the impact (e.g., economic and other) of unforeseen events such as a global pandemic, natural disaster (e.g., earthquake or tornado) or man- made catastrophe (e.g., 9/11) on the accommodation industry.
