Outcome
Explore the travel services industry and its interrelatedness to other industries within the tourism sector.
Indicators
(a) List examples of the types of businesses and services (e.g., travel agents, tourism call centers, visitor information centres and tour operators) provided by the travel services industry.
(b) Identify examples of the travel services industry within the local community and/or province.
(c) Describe the interrelatedness of the travel services industry and other tourism industries (i.e. food and beverage, accommodation, recreation and entertainment and transportation).
(d) Identify services (e.g., online, pamphlets and guidebooks) commonly available from travel services.

Suggest reasons why customers might access:

  • travel agents;
  • tourism call centres;
  • visitor information centers; and,
  • tour operators.
(f) Develop an information package that addresses typical visitors’ inquiries about the local and surrounding area and/or province.
(g) Discuss the impact (e.g., economic and other) of unforeseen events such as a global pandemic, natural disaster (e.g., earthquake or tornado) or man- made catastrophe (e.g., 9/11) on the travel services industry.
