Module 15A: Tourism Marketing A (Core)
Outcome
Analyze the purpose and benefits of tourism marketing.
Indicators
(a) Define marketing and describe its purpose.
(b) Describe potential benefits (e.g., economic, social and cultural) of marketing for the tourism sector.
(c) Discuss the importance of each element of the tourism marketing mix known as the 5 Ps and C (i.e., product, place, price, promotion, partnership and packaging, and convenience).
(d) Examine the value of conducting market research (e.g., helps determine the target audience and viability of product/idea/experience and helps one identify competitors) when considering the tourism marketing mix.
(e) Identify the 5 Ps and C of the tourism marketing mix applied to various local and provincial examples (e.g., a local summer fair, sports tournament, cultural event or trade show; Tunnels of Moose Jaw; Regina Folk Festival; Canadian Western Agribition; or a Saskatchewan Roughrider home game).
(f) Differentiate between destination marketing organizations (e.g., Tourism Regina and Tourism Saskatoon) and provincial marketing organizations (e.g., Tourism Saskatchewan) and the roles they play in the tourism sector.
