Module 1: Transitions in Life (Core)
Outcome
Examine strategies for managing transitions in life.
Indicators
(a) Identify examples of transitions (e.g., starting or ending a relationship, graduation from high school, having or adopting a child, starting a new job) experienced throughout life.
(b) Discuss potential positive and negative impacts transitions can have on self and others such as family, friends and community.
(c) Reflect on personal position in the life cycle (i.e., birth to death) and describe the transitions (e.g., first day of school, moving from elementary to high school, death of a loved one, moving to a new community, first job) already experienced.
(d) Create a personal representation (e.g., timeline, roadmap) that illustrates transitions experienced and reflect on the impact each has had on self and others.
(e) Predict some of the transitions (e.g., moving, moving in with roommates, starting post-secondary education, getting a first or new job) a person may encounter in the near future.
(f) Interview family, community members, Elders or Knowledge Keepers to discuss the transitions experienced in life and the influences (e.g., role models, family, culture) and strategies (e.g., seeking the advice of others, being prepared) that have helped cope with each transition.
(g) Develop a list of strategies (e.g., accepting change, being prepared, focusing on the positives) for dealing with transitions in life.
(h) Discuss skills required to manage various life changes.
