Outcome
Investigate ways to care for and maintain items that support living independently.
Indicators
(a) | Locate and identify laundry care symbols found on clothing and other fabric items such as towels, sheets and blankets. |
(b) | Explain the four laundry care categories (i.e., washing, drying, dry-cleaning, ironing). |
(c) | Discuss ways (e.g., repairing, maintaining, donating) to extend the use of items such as clothing, household appliances and vehicles. |
(d) | Demonstrate safe and proper use of household equipment and appliances (e.g., washing machines, dryers, irons, dishwashers, stoves and ovens). |
(e) | Develop a plan, incorporating safe and effective strategies and products, for regular cleaning of commonly used areas in the home (e.g., kitchen, bathroom, living room, bedroom). |
(f) | Explore options for sharing responsibilities (e.g., doing dishes, cleaning the bathroom, snow removal, garbage removal) with roommates to enhance safety and enjoyment of shared living accommodations. |
(g) | Propose strategies for keeping living areas free of pests (e.g., bed bugs, ants, rodents) and propose possible solutions to resolve pest issues independently and with the support of landlords and service providers. |
