Module 11: Meal Planning and Preparation (Core)
Outcome
Investigate meal planning and preparation as it relates to personal and community well-being.
Indicators
(a) Analyze personal eating patterns in relation to Canada’s Food Guide.
(b) Investigate healthy choices and practices (e.g., reading labels, considering Canada’s Food Guide, cooking your own food) when planning and preparing meals.
(c) Explore sustainable choices and practices (e.g., growing your own produce, hunting and gathering, sourcing local food) when planning and preparing meals.
(d) Assess cost-effective choices and practices (e.g., comparison shopping, making your own lunch, using leftovers) when planning and preparing meals.
(e) Create a monthly personal meal plan that includes factors such as:
  • budget;
  • access to ingredients and equipment;
  • preparation time;
  • nutritional value; and,
  • cultural preferences.
(f) Examine diverse worldviews and practices with respect to food purchasing, usage/consumption and waste.
(g) Analyze issues (e.g., affordability, availability, food usage) related to food security in the local community.
