Examine family relationships through the lifecycle.
Indicators
(a) | Investigate various family structures (e.g., nuclear, blended, extended, same-sex, single-parent, step-parent, common-law, adoptive). |
(b) | Conduct an inquiry into how family roles have changed over time. |
(c) | Research and compare the roles and responsibilities of family members in various cultures. |
(d) | Examine how individual roles and responsibilities (e.g., becoming a parent, becoming a grandparent, finding a birth parent) in a family may change through a lifecycle. |
(e) | Explore how family demographics (e.g. number of family members, birth order, co-habitation status) may affect relationships through the life cycle. |
(f) | Examine how recent world events have impacted family relationships. |
(g) | Analyze the impact specific stressful events (e.g., financial concerns, loss of employment, critical illness, divorce) may have on the dynamics of a family. |
(h) | Inquire into the effects of intergenerational or unresolved trauma (e.g., abuse, residential schools, missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls, domestic violence) on a family. |
