Outcome
Investigate the effects of addiction on the health and well-being of individuals and community.
Indicators
(a) Discuss various types of substance and behavioural addictions (e.g., gambling, drugs and alcohol, vaping, social media).
(b) Analyze the effects of addiction on everyday life (e.g., physical health, mental health, personal finances).
(c) Identify the potential impacts of the overuse of social media (e.g., mental wellness, anxiety, depression, negative effect, cyber bullying, quality of sleep) on self, individual and community well-being.
(d) Inquire into biological factors (e.g., genetics, mental illness, age) that can contribute to risk of addiction.
(e) Explore reasons why (e.g., relaxation, trauma, curiosity) an individual might choose to consume addictive substances.
(f) Identify signs and symptoms of addiction.
(g) Examine the characteristics of resilience and how it can help prevent or mitigate addiction.
(h) Examine how social pressure (e.g., culture and norms, popularity) can influence addictive behaviours.
(i) Identify intergenerational patterns of addiction and examine how these patterns can contribute to ongoing addiction.
(j) Inquire into addiction from spiritual, personal, cultural and community points of view.
(k) Investigate how distorted thinking and behaviour contribute to addiction.
