Module 26: Addiction Programming and Services (Optional)
Outcome
Analyze the strategies and services available in Saskatchewan to address addiction.
Indicators
(a) Research practices to prevent, reduce and address various addictions (e.g., drugs, sex, food).
(b) Examine the connection between mental health and addiction.
(c) Identify potential supports for treatment of addiction within the local community.
(d) Investigate strategies to reduce stigma around addictions.
(e) Analyze the effects of alcohol and ways to reduce the risk of problematic substance use and addiction (e.g., by becoming a responsible consumer or host).
(f) Analyze programs and services offered in the community that prevent and mitigate problematic substance abuse and addiction.
(g) Explore substance dependence though a variety of viewpoints (e.g., person with addiction, family member, employer, friend, partner).
(h) Demonstrate an awareness (e.g., warning signs, recognizing an overdose, treatment options) for a specific addiction.
(i) Compile lists of local, provincial and national organizations that provide addiction treatment programs (e.g., treatment centers, therapy and counseling, peer support group).
(j) Identify harm reduction strategies regarding various addictions (e.g., safe consumption sites, managed alcohol programs).
