Outcome
Investigate elements of active engagement as a Canadian citizen.
Indicators
(a) | Discuss characteristics required for effective advocacy of self and others. |
(b) | Investigate opportunities to become an advocate for a worthy cause (e.g., food bank, church charity, homeless shelter) in the local community. |
(c) | Investigate the values and beliefs of self, family, community, and society in relation to the importance of honouring the Spirit and Intent of treaties. |
(d) | Evaluate personal actions according to personal beliefs nurtured through understanding of treaty making. |
(e) | Explore ways to become an involved citizen (e.g., volunteering, fundraising, helping those in need) at the local, provincial and global level. |
(f) | Research fundraising scams and their warning signs. |
(g) | Research eligibility requirements for local, provincial and federal political positions. |
(h) | Inquire into how organizations (e.g., United Way, Salvation Army, Telemiracle) raise awareness and funds. |
(i) | Develop a project (e.g., recycling, reusing, repurposing) that promotes environmental, economic or social sustainability in the local community. |
(j) | Participate in volunteer activities to understand the benefits (e.g., improve community, gain new skills, sense of purpose) on self and community. |
