Module 31: Career Planning Project (Core)
Outcome
Create an incremental plan for life after graduation.
Indicators
(a) Evaluate academic progress using graduation plans and career planning tools.
(b) Identify three possible career choices taking into account:
  • high school courses achieved;
  • grades required for admission to relevant post-secondary institutions;
  • educational requirements of career paths;
  • personal interest and aptitude; and,
  • desired lifestyle.
(c) Create an action plan to achieve a desired career.
(d) Identify resources available (e.g., government student loans, private loans, registered education savings plans, family support) to finance postsecondary education.
(e) Design a student budget while considering:
  • cost of post-secondary;
  • transportation;
  • proper nutrition;
  • entertainment;
  • housing; and,
  • clothing and miscellaneous items.
(f) Develop contingency plans based on anticipated difficulties or setbacks.
(g) Identify which personal traits or skills will be beneficial in overcoming challenges.
(h) Design a speculative budget for adult life while considering:
  • prospective income of desired career path;
  • taxation;
  • cost (e.g., mortgage, land tax, maintenance) of purchasing or renting a home in a desired location;
  • transportation costs;
  • recreation costs; and,
  • other anticipated costs relevant to maintaining a home and desired lifestyle.
