Outcome
Investigate artistic

approaches used in
set construction.
Indicators
(a) | Review the roles of the technical director, production manager, scenic artist and other team members as they relate to set construction. |
(b) | Examine the specific responsibilities of the head carpenter and construction team related to the realization of scenic design concepts. |
(c) | Investigate how set construction is different from traditional building construction. |

Demonstrate understanding of set construction and set piece terminology such as:

(e) | Create an inspirational image bank of theatre set and scenery pieces that demonstrate construction practices considering a variety of factors such as portability, safety, illusion of reality or imagined environments. |
(f) | Create drawings for the construction of one or more two- or three- dimensional scenery pieces. |
(g) | Problem-solve ways to identify and simplify construction materials and techniques (e.g., suggestions of walls and windows rather than building the real thing). |
(h) | Create a two-dimensional (e.g., backdrop, basic 4x8 flat) or three- dimensional (e.g., bush, rock) piece of scenery. |
(i) | Identify and practise safety precautions (e.g., ensuring platforms meet structural strength standards, using non-combustive materials) required for set construction in a shop and stage setting. |
