Module 7C: Set Construction C (Optional)
Outcome
Plan and construct a set for a theatre production, real or imagined.
Indicators
(a) Collaborate to plan and create a complete set design including ground plans for a multi-set play, musical or other performance.
(b) Identify and practise safety precautions required for set construction in a shop and stage setting.
(c) Demonstrate problem-solving abilities and adherence to safety standards when joining set pieces (e.g., flats to create a wall, risers and ramp units including stairs to create levels, flats to risers, hanging backdrops) together.
(d) Use appropriate construction materials, tools and bracing (e.g., fasteners, jacks, weights) to install and secure scenery or set pieces according to safety standards.
(e) Identify potential challenges and create a plan for accommodating factors such as doorway dimensions, weight, portability, transporting, load in and load out during set construction and installation.
(f) Research and use computer-drafting software to aid in drawing construction schematics or blueprints.
(g) Prepare a timeline and budget for the construction of a set or scenery for a real or imagined production.
(h) Practice good leadership and demonstrate collaboration.
(i) Participate and take notes during technical rehearsals and runs in order to make revisions to the set construction work.
(j) Foster an environment that ensures safety and efficiency in the construction of stage scenery, moving the production in and out of the venue and moving set pieces on and off stage during the production.
