Indicators
(a) | Explain the role and specific tasks of scenic artists and painters (e.g., scenic artist interprets the scenic designer’s renderings and paints featured artwork such as wallpaper, backdrops, wood grain, marble or trompe l’oeil whereas a painter lays in colour). |
(b) | Create an inspirational image bank of designs that demonstrate different functions (e.g., bringing the set designer’s vision to life; creating texture; painting backdrops; using faux to create perspective; creating illusion of space, time and place) of scenic art in theatre. |
(c) | Create new colours and textures for set pieces by mixing paint. |
(d) | Experiment with painting techniques (e.g., scumbling, stippling, spattering, lining) to create a variety of surface textures. |
(e) | Demonstrate the use of perspective when drawing thumbnail sketches for backdrops. |
(f) | Demonstrate problem-solving strategies when creating illusions. |
(g) | Propose a scenic art project (e.g., backdrop, throne, flat piece of scenery, the illusion of a three-dimensional object on a two-dimensional surface). |
(h) | Review safety precautions and practices related to producing scenic art. |
(i) | Create the proposed scenic art project by hand or with the aid of technology. |
