Module 9C: Costume Construction (Optional)
Outcome
Apply fundamentals of costume construction in theatre productions.
Indicators
(a) Examine the working relationship between costume designers and the costume construction shop (e.g., collaborating to bring the designer’s and director’s vision to life, creating a practical and functional costume that provides mobility while staying true to the design, creating within a prescribed budget).
(b) Demonstrate artistic abilities and technical skills (e.g., fabric swatching and sourcing, cutting, sewing, pattern making, alterations, distressing) required for costume construction for a theatre production.
(c) Construct costumes for a production or part of a production within a limited budget.
(d) Create costume accessories for a specific costume.
(e) Collaborate with makeup artists and hairstylists (e.g., to confirm hairstyles, wigs, hairpieces, mustaches, beards and special makeup).
(f) Collaborate with properties department as required (e.g., for accessories such as parasols, canes, masks and padded stomachs).
(g) Attend, contribute and collaborate on ideas at design and production meetings.
(h) Create a wardrobe plot for costume check in/out.
(i) Review and practise safety precautions and procedures associated with costumes and accessories.
