Outcome
Apply fundamentals
of costume
construction in
theatre productions.
Indicators
(a) | Examine the working relationship between costume designers and the costume construction shop (e.g., collaborating to bring the designer’s and director’s vision to life, creating a practical and functional costume that provides mobility while staying true to the design, creating within a prescribed budget). |
(b) | Demonstrate artistic abilities and technical skills (e.g., fabric swatching and sourcing, cutting, sewing, pattern making, alterations, distressing) required for costume construction for a theatre production. |
(c) | Construct costumes for a production or part of a production within a limited budget. |
(d) | Create costume accessories for a specific costume. |
(e) | Collaborate with makeup artists and hairstylists (e.g., to confirm hairstyles, wigs, hairpieces, mustaches, beards and special makeup). |
(f) | Collaborate with properties department as required (e.g., for accessories such as parasols, canes, masks and padded stomachs). |
(g) | Attend, contribute and collaborate on ideas at design and production meetings. |
(h) | Create a wardrobe plot for costume check in/out. |
(i) | Review and practise safety precautions and procedures associated with costumes and accessories. |
